REIN- Repetitive Electrical Impulse Noise OR Random Electrical Impulse Noise
SHINE- Single High Impulse Noise Event
REIN and SHINE are radio waves that exist on the same frequency range that is used by your broadband service. They are the result of poorly designed or faulty electrical equipment or equipment that generates and uses a lot of power. In the case of REIN the equipment will often be faulty & cause a consistent electromagnetic output whilst it is on. With SHINE the electromagnetic interference is associated with the exact time the equipment is switched on or off. Below is a list of equipment that can cause REIN & SHINE:
Faulty electrical installations
Faulty thermostats/ Faulty central heating electrics
Immersion heaters
Electrical power supply units
Domestic appliances such as washing machine, tumble dryer, microwaves, fridge, freezers etc
Leisure appliances such as TV, TV box (Sky or Virgin), satellite receiver, digital receiver
Laptops, Routers, Access points, Switches, Hubs, Repeaters, transmitters
Railway lines
Electric fences/ gates and motors
Christmas tree lights and mobile / temporary lighting
Security systems and lighting
Data cables close to power cables
Card payment machines
Major structural works – road or building work
